Loca Update - Our precious Loca has come through her surgeries, groggy, tired, but in seemingly good spirits. Any kind of surgery on an older dog can be riskier so we all waited on pins and needles to hear how Loca's surgery went.

There can always be complications with a mature spay and given Loca's age, the risks were even greater. Add to that the removal of a tumor. The spay went very well, all things considered, however when the vet went to remove the tumor, he discovered 2 more. The removal of the tumors was the most critical and they also removed her mammory gland as an extra precaution. Unfortunately, we have to wait at least 5 days for the results of the biopsies.

At the same time they were able to give her infected ears a good flush and cleaning as well as antibiotics to help with the ear infections and also the dermatitis. Loca needs our positive prayers and healing thoughts now more than ever so please keep them coming!

Tiggs Update - Jen received a FANTASTIC update and pictures of her foster boy Tiggs. I don't know about you, but it looks to me like these two boys are inseparable already!

Hi! He is a sweet pup, and having fun, I think. He and Axel play, and play and play ... and then zonk out. It is so much fun! I can't believe how affectionate Taggart is. He sleeps at the foot of our bed at night.

We went for our first leash free walk and Taggs was a good boy. We start obedience classes on Monday. I've attached a few pictures- the boys are inseparable! Oddly enough, they haven't broken anything yet with all the horse play!

I am sure you all must miss him. And absolutely, if we are ever in the area, we'll connect. Ditto for you guys if you find yourselves in my neck of the woods. I promise to keep in touch. ~Pat, Paul, Axel and Taggart

GREAT update and fantastic pics. Thanks for sharing Jen! You must be very happy for your boy.

And, on another note, we received the results of Loca's blood work and the vet said it looked surprisingly good, considering her condition. Poor girlie had to be so uncomfortable with her ears infected, dermititis and a tumor. Loca will be going for surgery today and we will update everyone tomorrow about Loca's surgery. Please send positive thoughts for Loca.

Gunther Update - Foster mom, Allie brought Gunther to Heather at Petsmart in Ottawa for a nice groom before his big trip to his forever family. As you can see, he is looking mighty dapper and ready for the big day!

Saturday's plans were set and foster mom Allie met with Gunther's new family as her foster boy was passed over to his new, loving family. Waiting at his new home, will be his new brother Muggins. We cannot wait for pictures and updates of the two boyz and their family. Gunther will have a very large extended family too, so no time to get bored (-: Here is a picture of Gunther with his new mom and dad. Smiles all around (-:

Thank you Allie, Walter and Noah for welcoming Gunther into your hearts and home and caring for him until his forever family could be found. Thanks also to Little Man and Brie for sharing your "mom and dad" time with Gunther. Congratulations Gunther and family!

Loca Update - We are thrilled to let everyone know that we have Loca in our care, and what a sweetheart she is.

We were able to get her out of the shelter a week ago as we quickly assessed Loca's needs. Many, many thanks to Tim, Lyndsay and their beautiful girl Meyah for welcoming Loca into their hearts and home. We really appreciated all of your help with getting Loca to safety.

It is apparent however, that Loca will need some "specialized" care as you can see, her mammory's are quite swollen, possibly with mastitis. She has to be uncomfortable, yet you would never know as Loca is as sweet as they come. We are so happy that she is finally with us so we can get her back to good health.

Loca will be going to the vet tomorrow for a check up and assessment so we can figure out how we can start the healing process for this deserving little girl. Please stay tuned for updates about our darling little Loca. Have a GREAT weekend everyone!

Smiley Update - I am thrilled to share an update from Dan about his best friend Boots. It is so heartwarming to see how much Smiley Boots is loved by his dad.

This little fellow came to us at the tender age of 4 months old and had already had 4 owners ... this was no life for a young puppy. With no stability, no direction and no one to teach him what is acceptable, he was passed from home to home. We could not stand by knowing this could be a way of life for this energetic little boy.

So, fast forward a few months and look how happy and loved this boy is!! (-: Here is an update from Dan:

Dear Anml-Resq Folks, Just wanted to quickly update you on that wonderful dog you brought into my life. Boots is 9-months old today, October 15, 2013, but it feels like he's been a part of my life for years instead of just a few months.

He's a good natured, loving little boy who gets 3 or 4 walks a day, gets played with more than he should and usually winds up with a few treats too many. He's in good health and good spirits [...].

I've also changed his name to match his predecessors in my life, Snoopy, Sparky, Smokey and Spunky, who all earned their monikers through their wonderful spirits - and all began with "S" and ended with "Y." I wanted to keep up that tradition, but nothing seemed quite right. Until the other day when we were playing and I looked at him with his mouth open. He appeared to almost be smiling at me, with his tail wagging and his bright eyes shining. And so I've come to call him "Smiley," which is what he makes me do whenever I look at that sweet little face. It's an odd choice, but it's also one that perfectly fits him. And I'm keeping "Boots" as his middle name just for continuity.

I've enclosed a picture of the double-named pup, that illustrates just how much he's grown and how fantastic he continues to make my life.

Thanks for taking care of him until we could find each other. All the best to everyone there and my ongoing gratitude for the tremendous work you do! Dan Haber & Smiley (The Artist Formerly Known as Boots)

Thank you Dan for the wonderful picture and update about Smiley Boots. We feel his name suits him perfectly! He has so much to smile about and be thankful for; as do we.

And, on another note, if you have any information on this cutie, please take down the information and let the owners know that she is safe...

Calliope is a 2 year old female Shih Tzu, weighs approximately 10 lbs, is white/tan with a characteristic black stripe on her left face. She was lost September 8, 2013 from her daycare/ boarding facility in the Eastern Avenue/Carlaw area in Toronto, Ontario.

There was a confirmed sighting on September 11, 2013 in a cement quarry in the Lakeshore/Leslie St. area. Possible subsequent sightings in the Ryerson University campus area. There have been no sightings in over 2 weeks now. It is believed someone may have her. There is a reward of $1,000.00 for her safe return. If you have any information or have this dog, please call 416-526-4893.

Let's network for Calliope and help get her home...

Tiggs Update - We are excited to announce that our sweetheart Tiggs, now known as Taggar(t) ... named after detective John Taggart will be snooping things out with his new brother Axel ... of course named after non other than Axel Foley (Beverly Hills Cop).

These two boyz met a couple of weeks prior, shortly after Tiggs was neutered and had an umbilical hernia removed, so the boys couldn't really play - Tiggs was on leash only for 10 days. However, when new mom and dad and fur-brother Axel arrived to pick Tiggs up and welcome him home, the boys couldn't wait to get down to serious action.

Here is an update from foster mom Jen after her baby boy was picked up by his new family.

It was a sad good bye but he is definitely in good hands. Pat and Paul are such great people and Axel will have some great fun. They have come to terms and agree that Tiggs is Boxer/Mastiff mix. [...]

Click to enlarge...Click to enlarge...Click to enlarge...

Pat will send more to update how Tiggs is at his forever home. He is going into obedience classes next week so it should be interesting ~ Jen

We would like to thank Jen and her wonderful son Matthew for welcoming Tiggs into their hearts and home. You have given this youngster a second chance at life while he waited for the perfect family to make him theirs.

No doubt, these two super-sleuths will be on the case ... after a good wrestling session. We can't wait for updates and pictures. Congratulations Tiggs, Pat, Paul and Axel!

Luna Needs You - We have been asked to help Luna by courtesy posting this beautiful girl - who is such a looker. Here is a little about Luna from Nora, the lady who would like to help Luna find a great forever home.

If you think Luna is the girl for you, please contact Nora (contact info below). Beautiful Luna needs a new home. Sadly her owners can no longer keep her.

Beautiful Luna needs a new home. Sadly her owners can no longer keep her. She is a Shep mix, extremely intelligent, and loves people. She would need supervision with small children. She was born on February 2, 2012 so she is about 1 1/2 years old. She is spayed, received her most recent rabies vaccination (Imrab3) on April 1, 2013.

Luna is not micro-chipped as far as we know and had her last vet wellness visit in August, 2013 and is in great shape and good health. Luna lives with cats. She does forget sometimes she is not allowed to chase them. She is active, playful and eager to please. Luna enjoys fetching her ball and will always bring it back and will jump to great heights for a frisbee.

Luna does have basic training, is a quick learner! she will need a family willing, able to spend time with her. She is use to running in an enclosed dog park with other dogs, needs to be taught not to be rough with little ones. Luna has no issues with sharing her toys, good in the house with other dogs. On walks Luna can be reactive to bike riders but has much improved with training. If you think Luna is the girl for you, please contact Nora at or 905 476 1724.

Have a GREAT holiday weekend everyone. And don't forget to network for our four-legged friends and Luna!

Introducing Sophie - ANML-RESQ would like to introduce you to our newest adoptable girl, Sophie. As you can see, she is cute as a button. Here is a little about Sophie:

Sophie is a 7 month old Shar Pei/Lab mix in chocolate. The Shar Pei is clearly visible in her face a wonderful wrinkled forehead and a small lithe body which loves to have fun.

Sophie plays ball/fetch, can sit, lay down and shake both paws and since she is a puppy anything is possible. She likes to counter surf if given the chance, but is a real cuddle bug which more than makes up for this. Sophie is currently living with an older dog, two adults and one child under 2 years old.

She is dominant and is best suited with a submissive dog and an experienced owner. She does well with a fenced in backyard, but has not had occasion to be off leash.

She loves to go for walks with a gentle leader and gets lots of daily exercise. Sophie is fully vetted, UTD on vaccines and is also micro-chipped. She is a lovely puppy who would make a great companion to someone who loves the outdoors and lots of activities.

If you would like to adopt Sophie, please fill in our on-line application/foster form on the left. For more information, please email us at

LOCA IS URGENT - We need your help! We need to find a foster or forever home for Loca.  She has been at the shelter for quite some time now and it is taking its' toll on this sweet senior girl. She longs to be with people and is so sad when she has to be returned to her kennel.

This beautiful girl came to the shelter on August 22nd. One look at this sweet little girl's body and you can tell she has not lived the greatest life. Poor Loca's ears were savagely cut off, she has been bred repeatedly in life, has marks on her back, and has a breast tumour.

When Loca stands for too long, her back legs begin to shake violently. Thankfully, her personality hasn't been effected by her bad past and she is an extremely friendly, outgoing and energetic dog! We believe Loca is about 10 years old and she is approx 55 lbs, her most favourite thing in the world is playing with toys! Loca loves to run and play off leash in the x-pen and will play fetch for hours.

She is housetrained and never messes in her cage, she would rather hold it than go inside. Loca loves going for long walks, she does pull on the leash but this may change with regular exercise. Loca has the biggest, most gorgeous eyes! She does sit, paw and lay down. Loca can also catch a ball or treat with her mouth. I can take toys away from her without an issue and Loca brings her ball back to me after I throw it.

Loca doesn't like returning to her kennel and will cry and paw at the bars when you leave her behind. She wants to be in a home so badly! In her cage, she always goes underneath her blanket until she hears someone come into the dog room, then you will see the blanket rise, shake and Loca appears! Loca loves snuggling under her blankies. She gets along great with every dog she meets, whether they are male or female, big or small, friendly or have attitude, Loca loves them! I'm sure she would go fine in a home with another dog or dogs.

We've never seen any aggression or issues with Loca, she is always happy and loves her to be petted. Loca especially likes the little stumps of her ears rubbed and getting belly rubs! We believe she was only ever used as a breeding dog, watching Loca play with toys is one of the cutest things I've ever seen! She looks like a puppy having so much fun! Loca's tail never stops wagging when she has a ball in her mouth! She doesn't even mind the rain, as long as she has her toys, she's happy!

Please consider helping Loca by fostering or adopting. If you think you can help Loca, please fill out the foster/adoption application on the left. If you have any questions, please contact us at

The Adoptables - We received a great update and pictures of Lucy and Lilly from foster mom, Edel. As you can see, these two senior girls are enjoying life to the fullest! They enjoy their trail walks with their foster sisters and they love going to work with mom at her hair salon. For more information on Lilly and Lucy...

...Lilly is a wonderful lively girl who is excited when she sees me, when she gets picked up she cuddles like a little bear and makes these snorting noises. She loves cookies and I have to spell it so wont get ready by licking her lips and raising her ears. She loves traveling in the car and is overall a quiet companion. [...]

Lucy and Lilly like coming to work with me and greeting customers, I think they like the attention. They are quiet gentle dogs who like gentle treatment. [...]

Lucy sleeps at the bottom of my bed and in the morning she is halfway under the cover all toasty. Lilly sleeps most of the time on the bench at the end of my bed. Whatever I do in or around the house, Lucy is always beside me. [...] In the morning they start the day with a walk and then munching on a small treat [...]

We cannot understand why these two beauties have had no interest. They are absolutely perfect and very much enjoy being a part of their foster family. If you or anyone you know would be interested in adopting both sisters (they are very bonded), please contact us at Lucy and Lilly have been waiting a long time to find their forever home.

Have a great weekend everyone and don't forget to network, network, network... the puppies need you!

Rollie Update - Our foster mom, Carolina received a FANTASTIC update on her previous foster Rollie. Rollie was in a bad situation through no fault of his own. His owner was moving far, far away and Rollie didn't do well with car rides, so if no one spoke up to take Rollie, his owner would have put him to sleep. What a tragedy this would have been for this good old boy.

Thankfully, our gal Carolina was able to take Rollie in and foster this handsome boy until the perfect family was found for him. Here is an update from Rollie's mom Suzie. (-:

Hi! Hope all is well with you and yours! We took Rollie in for his check-up with his new vet ([...]) and all is more than well. He estimated Rollie's age to be 8 or 9 given his muscle mass, teeth and overall deportment. His weight and thyroid levels are ideal. Doc couldn't believe he's almost fifteen.

He said we should have several more years with him given his current condition! YES!!! He's all up to date on his shots. Such a happy boy he is! Thank you for the hundredth time for being his foster mum, taking him in and passing him on - we love him so much! All the best, ~Suzy and Stuart (and Rollie)

As you can see from the picture and update from Rollie's mom and dad, he is doing FANTATIC!! Carolina is no doubt thrilled to hear how well Rollie is doing and how happy he has made his new family.

Skye Update - Our foster girl Skye had a visit with our recently adopted boy Scout. As you can see, Skye is having a lot of fun with this young, energetic boy. As always, our sweetheart Karl must be in the "thick of things" as he doesn't want to miss out on a thing. God, I love that boy so much!!! It is heartwarming to see 3 rescues all together enjoying each others company.

Skye is doing great and it seems she really enjoys visits from her doggy friends, Scout, Phoenix and Bo. She really enjoys her time playing with the boys.

Foster mom Debbie can't say enough about this sweetheart. I have been fortunate to visit with Skye a few times now and she is such a friendly, happy cuddle-bug. We cannot understand why Skye hasn't found a forever home yet - she is an amazing girl with so much love to give.

Mocha - It has been a few months and with lots of love and patience from Mocha's foster family, we feel she has come a long way since she first arrived into rescue. Although Mocha is still a "work in progress", her fear issues are subsiding. We feel that in the right home, Mocha will flourish and continue her road to recovery.
Here is an update from Carolina, Mocha's foster mom.

Mocha is a beautiful young Rottweiler that is in need of a special home that can provide her with stability and patience.

Mocha was found as a stray and was sitting in a shelter when ANML-RESQ was called in to help this beautiful girl. Mocha's past is unknown but it is painfully obvious that she lived a life no dog should. It seems like Mocha was a product of neglect and very possibly abuse as well. All that I can say is that she's missed out a lot in what positive experiences there are in life and in turn made her fearful. This frightened girl was pulling at our heart strings and we knew she had no chance in the shelter. Something terrible has happened to this girl, but if you looked into her eyes for the brief moment she would make contact, you could see a warmth in those eyes of hers ... she wanted so much to trust.

Now that Mocha had been in foster care for a while, we found that she is great with dogs (both small and large) and enjoys playing with them outside, well her version of playing is jumping around playfully and running with them in the yard. She also likes to give them kisses often. Mocha would benefit most in a quiet home in the country or a very quiet suburban neighbourhood and preferably with another well rounded dog. Mocha is affectionate and loves to be around her people and her doggie foster brothers and even enjoys the company of men (Mike, her foster dad). She has the most beautiful soulful eyes that will make you melt. One of Mocha's most favourite things in life is food, making it much easier to teach her new things. She is very smart and catches on quick. She knows how to sit, give paw, and plays the target game very well. She walks beautifully on leash and loves to go for hikes down by the ravine and enjoys to be off leash in a secure fenced yard with the other dogs and her people. Mocha is spayed, microchipped and up to date with her vaccines.

Mocha is a girl that requires a home that understands her situation and has experience in working with fearful dogs. She has never exhibited aggressive behaviours and would much prefer to run away when startled and since she is naturally inquisitive, she bounces back quickly considering her past.

All in all, Mocha is a great girl with so much potential, she simply needs guidance and confidence boosting to steadily move forward. I am positive she will overcome her fears in time and become a great adoptable girl for the right family.

If you know of someone that can find it in their heart to give Mocha the home she deserves, please contact us at She is a beautiful girl who needs this opportunity to find a loving, patient and caring home.
