Suma - It is with tears that we have to tell you that our beautiful girl Suma has crossed the Bridge. This little girl who was adopted at 10 yrs. old and not expected to live long, due to cancer, managed to spend 5 years knowing love and kindness.

Rest in Peace Little Suma ... run free and play hard at the Bridge.

1998 – 2013

Suma spent 4+ years in doggie heaven-on-earth after spending 11 years in puppy-mill hell. Despite her sad start in life, she was a most sweet natured girl who delighted in her walks in wooded trails and the streets of Wortley Village, loved by everyone who met her.

She was so cherished by her mom, fellow Petnicks and especially her special kitty Bijou. Suma’s passing leaves an enormous hole in our heart. R.I.P Sussi (little sister).

Scout Update - This week we were also asked if we could help two dogs in urgent need of help. Their time was up at the shelter and if rescue was not found, they would be killed.

We jumped into action immediately. First of all, we met a couple at our fundraiser that were previously interested in our Boots. Thankfully they came to our fundraiser and most of our volunteers had a chance to meet Rick and Ruth. They reiterated that they were looking for a border collie cross or something similar as they missed having a dog. After their previous dog passed, they felt it was time to find a new companion.

The first dog in urgent need seemed to fit the bill, so we contacted them immediately to see if they would be interested in fostering and/or adopting this sweet 9 month old lab/collie mix. They immediately responded with a that covered one of the urgents ... now we had to work on the 6-8 yr. old Papillon mix.

The previous week we just completed an application for a foster who could accomodate a small/medium sized dog. When we emailed asking if they would be interested in the papillon mix, they said YES - woohoo!!!!

Now, for the hardest part....we have foster homes, but how do we arrange transport in the middle of the week from as far away as they were? Add to that, it had to be a late night transport - YIKES!! The request went out immediately for transpot help and God bless all the angels out there - WE DID IT!!! Both doggies were transpoted into their homes.

Here is an update and some pictures of our very lucky, happy boy with his new mom(and even an appearance with our Karl) (-:

And our little papillon mix - now known as Kylie is also settling in nicely with her new foster family. Please stay tuned for more about Kylie as we get to know her better!

He is Ruthy's shadow. He is a ladies dog. Loves Amber. Real gentle with the young folks that visited today. Neighbors out front have a 4 and 2nhalf years old boy and girl and my nephews 5 year old son was over most of the day no issues. Has not been jumping up much either.

Click to enlarge...Click to enlarge...Click to enlarge...

He is starting to bark when there is a noise he can't identify. Big growly bark for a little guy. He barks at me when I come in suddenly which is always. Pretty bright little guy too. Doesn't miss much. Amber has him shaking a paw for a treat. He is also starting to sit when we stop walking pretty cool stuff without a command. Likes being told good boy and a treat. Gonna wear his tail out.

The 9 month old puppy is now known as Scout ... and no big surprise - he won't be leaving his foster home ... they love him. No doubt you will notice in the pictures that Scout is in LOVE with his new mom, Ruth.

Boots - On Sunday, after the fundraiser, our popular little man, Boots went to his forever home as well.  Boots has the FULL attention of his new dad, Dan.

Many thanks to Caroline for fostering this little boy for us.  Sadly, when he came to us, he was only 4 months old and already had 4 homes.  We were determined to help Boots and find a home where he would not have to worry about leaving, AGAIN! Congratulations Boots and Dan!!  Happy Trails BOYZ (-:

Weekend Fundraiser - We had a FANTASTIC day at our 4th Annual Paws in Action Fundraiser. Thankfully, after the horrific weather on Friday, Saturday turned out to be bright, sunny and HOT!!

As you can see, all the doggies and their people had a SUPER fun day dock-diving, doing agility and socializing with old and new friends. We had a wonderful turnout and I hope everyone had as much fun as I did.

HUGE thanks to Sherry and all the crew at Maple Lane Kennels for once again, providing a beautiful venue with use of the pool and property. We had a blast!

Also, we would like to thank our volunteers who pulled together a fantastic day, with lots of good eats, lots of items for sale and auction. We raised over $2,000.00 at this event and the money will help us to continue helping those in need.

We met old friends and we met a lot of new friends as well. You will probably recognize a lot of our happily adopted - it was so nice to see our happy furkids and their wonderful families.

We would also like to thank our youngest volunteers, who helped us tremendously on the day. Special thanks to Alex, Noah, Kaitlyn, Megan and Wesley ... all future rescuers (-:

Most of all we would like to thank everyone that came out and joined us. Without your kind support, we would not be able to help as many as we do. I hope you enjoyed seeing how much fun we all had!

Tigger Update - Tigger waited a VERY long time to find his forever home and as I have always said ... those that wait the longest, wait for the best!

Tigger's new mom found us many years ago when we courtesy posted a dog named Tenushi. Her daughter fell in love with her and contacted her owners. When she went to meet Tenushi, she was a MESS! She was only 30 lbs and covered in scars. They couldn't bear to see this dog in the condition she was in and immediately adopted her. It became apparent that Tenushi was very dog aggressive, but ADORED people. They attended to her immediate needs, took her to the vet immediately. Both mother and daughter love Tenushi, even though she may not be everyone's idea of an ideal dog. She has lots of love to give, but because of her past history, undoubtedly her experience with dogs was not a good one.

Tigger's new mom, Janet felt that it was time for her to have her own dog and the first place she looked was our site. She fell in love instantly with Tigger.

The rest is history! Allie has done a WONDERFUL job fostering Tigger. I know it was a REAL heartbreak when Allie found out there was actually a good application in for Tigger. It isn't easy to foster a dog for 3 years and let him go, but Allie's first consideration was Tigger and I know that reluctantly she decided to do what was best for Tigger and allowed him to go to his forever home. Thank you Allie for taking such good care of Tigg and letting him go. I know it was heartbreaking for you and your family.

Here are some pictures and a GREAT update from Tiggers' new mom.
Congratulations Tigger from ALL of us at ANML-RESQ! You lucked out, BIG TIME!

Hi Renee: Here are some photo's, as you can see Tigg is much more photogenic then I am. Anyways, he is doing great. I fall more and more in love with him every day. He is an amazing dog. A real gentleman. Except, we still haven't figured out that the cats rule the house, so we have the ocassional game of chase the cat, but the cats always win. He has fallen in love with Tenushi from afar and they whine through the door at each other.

We go for our walks twice and day and play fetch in the yard, anyone who has met him thinks he is absolutely wonderful. He has become my velcro dog, I can't go anywhere in the house without him. I want to thank you for allowing him to become part of my family. And tell Allison she did an amazing job with him. I will keep you updated with photos and how Tigg is doing.

Look forward to maybe seeing you at an upcoming fundraiser. Just remember, if you are ever in the Toronto area you are always welcome to come over and see Tigger. Thanks again. ~Janet

However, knowing how happy Tigger is being Janet's "one and only", will soon help to heal the pain of letting him go.

Thank You - I would like to take this opportunity to thank Bill and Jeanette, proud owners of our beautiful girl Willow for sending a generous donation to our rescue in memory of their neighbour's beloved dog Chessie who recently passed away. What a wonderful way to honour Chessie's life. Thank you from all of us at ANML-RESQ Network of Ontario.

I would also like to thank Pet Valu, Oak Ridges, for once again generously donating $100.00 which was raised through their Tuesday night "nail trimming" for rescues in need. Thank you again to Corrine and staff at Pet Valu, Oak Ridges. If you are in the area, please be sure to stop in and support our wonderful sponsors.

And, on another note I would like to tell you that the blog will not be updated until Elaine can do our updates ...

Links of Interest - Educational, interesting and informative ... grab a coffee and enjoy! What is a pitbull. There has and probably always will be stigma associated with not only the breed (or people's perception of the breed) and the people that own them. I have always said 'most people that discriminate and spread vicious rumors about this breed have never met one'. If we can provide people with "positive" experiences, we CAN change their minds ... one person at a time.

And, I have saved the best for last ... when you need to make a point ... go bake some cookies. Det. Jeff Bangild did just that ... Yesterday, he put out raw cookie dough to bake in his car while he went to work ... here is what happened...»  By the way, 43o C is 109.4o F and, if you are sitting in the front seat of the vehicle add another 25o F for good measure; 134.4o F can cook your organs in no time flat! Remember to always carry your cell phone and a brick! lol

Enzo and Skye Need Help - Another busy week and I can tell you that ALL of our volunteers are ready for a GOOD time this weekend in Alliston.

Just to catch you up, prior to hearing about Skye, we also heard of another female Rottweiler in need of a new home. At that time, we also knew of a previous adoptor that just lost their female and were missing their Rottie girl, so when Nikki's situation came up, we knew just the home for her!! (-: Arrangements were made on Monday to get Nikki picked up and on her way to her new home.

MANY thanks to our gal Mim who, once again, got on the road really early for the days' trek. Transports are so hard to work out on weekdays, thankfully, we have such dedicated volunteers, who go the "extra" miles to "make it happen".

We wish Nikki ALL the best in her new home, where she has acres and acres to run and play with her new brother, Mustafa (-: Congratulations to Nikki and Stephanie!

We also have confirmation that Heidi's foster home has FAILED!! (-: Heidi will be officially adopted and as you can see, she has a GREAT new friend, our beautiful girl, Ruby! The two have been best friends since the day Heidi arrived.

Here are some pictures that mom, Laree has sent of Ruby and Heidi (it's hard to get a picture of them, since they are always on the move) but, once they are all worn out, they are huddled together for some much needed rest!

Click to enlarge...Click to enlarge...Click to enlarge...

Congratulations to our two lucky black and tan girlies! Now, we REALLY need to work a "miracle" for our other two beautiful black and tan Rotties...Enzo and Skye!! Please spread the word that these two are looking for a loving foster or forever home! Thanks everyone!

Skye is Urgent - You may remember our Christmas miracle of 2011 - we were able to find home for Skye just before her time ran out at the shelter. She has lived happily since then with a lady and 2 other dogs. Sadly, family circumstances have changed and because there will now be young children living in the home and Skye needs to be re-homed as she is not comfortable around young kids.

Here is a little about Skye from her family:

Skye is a wonderful dog. She is very affectionate and has been a great companion. Though she does have some deformity in her front leg, this has caused absolutely no issue with her mobility - within days it ceases to be something one notices at all. Skye has adapted and functions as an entirely normal Rottie.

Click to enlarge...Click to enlarge...Click to enlarge...

Skye is not good with cats or small dogs and she is not comfortable around young children. All in all, Skye is a tremendous dog, perfect for any adult - male or female - looking for a great house companion. Perfect for indoors. Her favourite side is right beside you, though she easily tolerates extended periods alone in the house, if necessary.

If you are an experienced with larger breeds and think you can help by fostering Skye, please contact us Don't forget Skye needs to be placed ASAP - please network her with your friends and relatives.

July 15/13

Weekend Update - It was another busy weekend for our volunteers. We had volunteers running the roads all weekend, with transports, in-homes AND planning this coming weekends fundraiser, etc.

We are thrilled to tell you that our beautiful girl Daisy was flown to safety on Saturday - it was a long day for Daisy and our volunteers, Carolina and Debbie. After some cuddle time with her foster brothers, Tynan and Timber, foster mom Carolina had to prepare Daisy for her flight. I know it was a tearful "good-bye" as Daisy is such a sweet, loveable girl and "good-byes" are never easy - especially when you know they are going far, far away.

Thank you Debbie for accompanying Carolina to the airport and being an "emotional support". We can take comfort in knowing that Daisy will be safe in a province that does not "discriminate" and accepts our prohibited with open arms!

We also have some good news for our sweetheart, Lambchop. She went to her forever home on Sunday and I have no doubt it was a bitter-sweet day for Choppers' foster family.

She was very much loved and will surely be missed by all - however, Lambchop is on to a new life with a gentleman that recently lost his beloved boy. We cannot wait for pictures and updates from her new dad, Ross.

July 12/13

This Weekend - There is a really good site with some great printable posters to help us all raise awareness of the dangers of dogs and kids being left in hot cars. Please take a moment to view this site and print off the posters and place on your vehicles as well as distribute to your friends.

We are all excited about this weekend. Our volunteers have been extremely busy this week with applications and planning for our July 20th event.

We are excited to let you know that our puppy, Boots will be going to his forever home on Sunday. His new dad has been anxiously awaiting his arrival and now that Boots is neutered, he is ready to go! We cannot wait for pictures and updates.

Also, our little prohibited girl Daisy (soon to be named Gyspy) will also hopefully be flying out this weekend. She is all healed from her spay and ready to fly - woo hoo!

We also have ALL paws crossed for our beautiful girl, Lambchop. Her in-home visit will be done tonight and if all goes well, Chopper will be going home this weekend.

Thank you to all our volunteers that have worked their hearts out this past week. We couldn't do it without your dedication.

Have a great weekend everyone!!

Sophie Update - It sure looks like our little Sophie is growing like a weed and no doubt getting into trouble every now and again (-: Sure Sophie, we believe you ... NOT!

What ! Me ! I wasn't chewing your boot ! I have no idea why you would even think such a thing! I am innocent (-:

We also received some cute pictures of our little Daisy (who is now named Gypsy by her soon to be owners). Gypsy has been completely vetted now and is ready to FLY to freedom to live muzzle free and enjoy life as a dog should.

As you can see ... Gypsy and Tynan have become fast friends!!!

And we are told that foster mom catches them spooning all the time!

Bambi Update - We end the week with some pictures of two of our happily adopted. First we have our little Ali (now named Lucy) ... it looks like she REALLY likes her new brother Buster (-:

Not sure what he thinks of her yet - he seems to be playing "hard to get"! What a cute little pair they make.

We also received a picture of our VERY lucky girl Bambi (now known as Cleo) who also made some new doggy friends.

Congratulations to our two lucky girls, Lucy and Cleo!

I also thought we should include a link that is warning pet owners about the deadly dog fungus, Blastomycosis. This is a fungal spore, present in most soils and typically in river valley areas. Please be sure to read and be aware! Have a great weekend everyone!

July 4/13

Meet Daisy - We are thrilled and excited to introduce you to our newest rescue, Daisy. This little girl was found straying in the woods when animal control picked her up. It was very apparent that she had a recent litter. They looked for the puppies, but none were to be found. She was taken to the shelter and Daisy was so very scared. Her little body shook as she cowered in the back of the cage. She was so darn scared, so many noises, so many dogs, so many people - she just wanted to curl up and die.

Several rescues were called in, but none would take her and we already had 2 prohibited needing out at the same time, so we asked the shelter to PLEASE keep her safe while we tried to work something out. Just as we were getting Boozie arranged to leave for the East, we were told Daisy's time was pretty much up. It was DO or DIE!

So, with panic setting in, the sense of urgency just tripled! We need a foster home - all are full-up and more importantly, we NEED a place out of province for Daisy. Perhaps it was fate, but just as we were beginning to feel a sick feeling of defeat - there was a sign!!!! At that moment of panic, we got a wonderful update, along with pictures of our VERY happy boy, Murphy ... I thought, "what the heck...can't hurt to send and see if they have any friends looking" (-; No sooner did I send Daisy's pictures and story to Murphy's people, when I got an immediate response ... it just so happened that a friend of Murphy's dad was visiting and wanted to know where they got such a GREAT dog!! As Murphy's dad explained that he came from Ontario ... my email about Daisy came through.

Click to enlarge...Click to enlarge...Click to enlarge...

Jeremy fell in love with her instantly and sent his contact information immediately. An application was sent in soon after speaking with them and VIOLA! Daisy was scooped up at lightening speed, before something horrendous happened to this very loving girl. We are SO fortunate to have made so many wonderful friends in the East coast that have helped us find GREAT homes for these wonderful dogs - thank you all!

We are so thrilled to have saved another precious life - woo hoo!

Heidi Update - We received a great update and pictures from Heidi's foster mom. It sounds like this little girl is having the time of her life as well - woo hoo! What a change for all three of our Northern girls. A family to call their own, 3 square meals a day, doggy friends to play with and NOT A CARE IN THE WORLD!! (-:

Hi Renee, Oh what a couple of weeks it has been, Heidi is a sweetheart and adjusting so well. She is getting plenty of exercise both by walks, dog park visits and chew toys/balls in the house, which makes her quite sleepy at times. I've noticed her paws getting bigger and her coat changing color a little. She is developing a personality and barks and hops when she is let out of her crate in the morning.

Click to enlarge...Click to enlarge...Click to enlarge...

My partner and I took her to the vet and she came back with a clean bill of health and a note from the vet "she is very smart!" We will be taking her back on July 7th for her second set of shots. [...]~Laree

I am getting a sneaking suspicion this little girl named Heidi will not be going anywhere ... we will see!

Ali Update - We are so happy to announce that Ali went to her forever home yesterday! (-: She has a new dad and an 11 year old Bulldog/Shit Zu brother named Buster. Hopefully she won't wear her little brother out. Won't be long and she will be towering over him.

Congratulations to Ali, David and Buster. Thank you to Christine and family for taking Ali and sister Tori into their home and allowing to wait for their forever families.

We also have good news for another young "pit bull" type dog. At only six months of age, his life was in jeopardy. This little cutie was not safe in our province. Once again, an innocent puppy, born into this province of "hate".

Although our little Boozie has never done anything wrong, never harmed anyone or anything, just by his looks alone, his life was in imminent danger. Thanks again to our wonderful friends in the East Coast, we were able to transport Boozie to safety this past weekend.

HUGE thanks to Jen and Matthew for allowing Boozie to ride in style with them as they travelled to the East for a vacation. Thank you for getting Boozie to safety and on the road to a NEW LIFE - living muzzle free and without prejudice! Happy trails to all of our lucky furkids!!
