Happy New Year - We are nearing the end of another year and we at ANML-RESQ are very proud of what we have accomplished in the past 12 months.

The year was filled with trials and tribulations as is the case with most rescues. This year we took in a number of dogs who had some pretty rough beginnings and a little baggage to go along with them. Our foster homes have had their work cut out for them this year, but as usual, our foster families worked on issues, whether behavioral or health and have truly shown their dedication in mentoring and caring for these dogs and giving them the help they needed to become healthy, happy and adopted. Without our foster homes we could not help these wonderful, deserving dogs with the second chance they deserve.

Our volunteers have come through once again this year with some pretty amazing fundraisers. A lot of hustle and bustle goes on in order to make these fundraisers a fun and educational time for everyone, 2 legged and our furry 4 legged friends.

Thank you to all our dedicated volunteers who have put many miles on their vehicles, transporting dogs to safety, doing inhome visits for potential adoptors, networking for urgent dogs in need, educating and advocating .

And thank you to all of our friends and amazing adoptors who have supported us for so many years now.

We will soon ring in the New Year and we look forward to another successful year at ANML-RESQ Network of Ontario, with the help of all our friends.

I am THRILLED to once again present ANML-RESQ Network of Ontario Adopted Dogs of 2014

Thank you to everyone who helped make these miracles happen. Happy New Year from all of us at ANML-RESQ! May your year be filled with health, love, happiness and lots of slurpy kisses!!

December 24/14

Pup Update - It's that time of year, again, where we get together with family and friends to enjoy the Christmas holidays.

It is a hectic and stressful time of year, so please remember your 4-legged friends. If you find them getting overwhelmed let them go to a room that is quiet and away from the festivities. Send them to their room with a nice juicy bone or a kong filled with goodies and let them chill. Even cats can get stressed, so make sure they have a space away from the traffic and children.

All of us at ANML-RESQ would like to take this opportunity to wish you a very Merry Christmas. I hope all of your wishes come true and that you are able to spend time with your family and friends at this very special time of year.

I couldn't let Christmas come and go without showing off our cute little puppies, Dex, Layla, Mya and Nora. They have come a long way since coming into rescue. Their mange is clearing up and we are hoping for a clean bill of health, soon, from the vet so these little cutie pies can be posted and find their forever families!

ANML-RESQ would like to thank our wonderful foster families and volunteers for making "dreams come true" for so many deserving dogs. Without your dedication and help, we could not have helped as many as we did.

Maddy Update - Christmas came early for one very lucky little girl! Our sweetheart Maddy went home yesterday to a mom who has been anxiously anticipating Maddy's arrival for over 3 weeks now.

While taking Maddy to the vets for her first vaccines, we found out that she was in heat, but she had already been posted on the website for adoption. A foster home and good friend of ANML-RESQ recommended our girl Maddy to a client that was looking for a new companion and Maddy seemed to fit the bill. An application was submitted and I had a chance to speak to this potential adoptor, telling her all about our Maddy girl but also letting her know that because she just went into heat it would be several weeks before she could be adopted and she would be spayed at the appropriate time at the rescues expense.

This was not an issue for the potential adoptor and I really liked that they were willing to wait for the girl that captured their heart. I really liked this lady and I thought Maddy would be very lucky to be adopted into this loving family.

We kept in touch and soon the big day arrived. Maddy had a long drive ahead of her but with a stop or two to stretch out, have a potty break and something to eat and drink, back on the road again to finally meet her new mom.

I have no doubt that it was love at first sight because Maddy is not only beautiful on the outside, but she's a beauty on the inside too.
My husband and I are thrilled for this girl, once abandoned and left to fend for herself. We are happy to have played a part in finding Maddy's forever home.

Maddy has 2 feline sisters, she has met them both. One has already shown Maddy "who the boss is" lol, and the other let Maddy give her a few kisses, so they are off to a good start (-:

Congratulations Maddy and Karen! Merry Christmas Maddy from all of us at ANML-RESQ and special hugs from your foster family. We all miss you already.

Get Better Gus - Our gentle giant Gus had surgery last week to remove his eye. Unfortunately, our boy has glaucoma and a very aggressive form that is causing him pain. It was decided it was in Gus's best interest to remove his eye - he was already blind in that eye so there was nothing to lose and everything to gain for Gus.

If Gus's surgery wasn't enough, though, Gus's mom had to have knee surgery a couple of weeks prior so there are two in the household that need assistance. Please send positive prayers for a speedy recovery for both Gus and his loving mom, Anne. Here is an update from Gus's doting dad.

Gus had his eye removed Monday past and came home the same day It's been a pretty hectic 4 days.

Gus came home with a 30 inch Elizabethan collar which terrified him along with pain pills, antibiotic pills, a syrup for diarrhea, and 2 different eye drops for his remaining eye. The pills and syrup were for 3 times a day and the eye drops once a day. What a battle to get the pills in. He just flat out refused to eat anything including all his old favourites such as a piece of butter tart. We tried everything and anything we could think of. By forcing wet canned dog food into his mouth we could get the pills down. He gets about half a can this way. Jack thought it was great. He quickly learned to stand just under Gus's mouth and get everything Gus rejected.

Yesterday we called the vets about Gus not eating. They reduced the number of pain pills, took away the diarrhea stuff and added gravol and Pepcid. So now even more pills to ram home. The first pepsid pill did not make it down his throat so we had foam and slime all over the place. Poor guy. But last night we got all of them in the right place.

There is a lady near us who loves Gus ( one of his many admirers) and watches for our afternoon walks so she can feed him dried out old milk bones which Gus happily eats. We offer him fresh ones at home and he won't eat them. This week he won't even eat those and the poor lady was in tears over him. Yesterday afternoon up came his nose, open came his mouth and he ate about 4 of them. And last night he started to show some interest in his own treats. This morning he ate most of the yolk of 2 boiled eggs so I think we've turned the corner. He started drinking again on Wednesday.

His removed eye was sent away for pathology to see if any light can be shed on the cause as well as the risk of his other eye going. The clinic is now closed until after New Years so we go back on Jan 5 to get his stitches out and to get results of the pathology report.

And through all this he just keeps wagging his tail. Even when repeatedly prying his mouth open to jam food balls in he is not grumpy at all. He has become even more sucky than before with me. I can't move five feet without him. So that's where we're at with Gus. He is such a good dog. ~Wayne

All the best Gus and Anne from ALL of your friends at ANML-RESQ!! Get better soon!

Meet Karitsa - Introducing Karitsa!! We have had Karitsa in our care for a few weeks now. She has been to the vet and was a very good girl there. She also had a "spa day" with a nice bath and a full grooming. She had some knots and tangles but she was such a good girl while being groomed! It is now time that we find Karitsa her perfect forever home! Here is a little about our girl Karitsa.

Karitsa a lovable and stunning 2 1/2 year old Kuvasz. The name Karitsa means 'lamb' in Finnish and this girl truly resembles a lamb with her white fluffy coat.

Click to enlarge...Click to enlarge...Click to enlarge...

Karitsa is a fun loving girl who is looking for a knowledgeable home for this breed. She is up to date with her vaccines and spayed. Karitsa is great with dogs of all sizes and would love to find a forever home with another 4-legged friend. She loves to play with other dogs and also likes to hang out with her people once her energy is used up.

Karitsa is an active girl who needs a home with a fully fenced yard to zoom around in as she has energy to spare, and loves to be outdoors. Karitsa enjoys belly rubs and needs to be with her people whenever possible or she will feel left out and will vocalize her opinion of being left out. She is non-destructive, housetrained, crate trained and will let you know if she needs to go outside. She will vocalize when put in her crate, but that is for a short period then she is resigned and sleeps quietly.

Karitsa is a vocal girl that loves to communicate with her people, she is loyal, loving and will nudge you for affection. Karitsa is truly a beautiful girl with a heart of gold that so deserves a family to call her own. If you're looking for a loyal companion to enhance your life, Karitsa is the girl for you. You can fill out the adoption/foster application on the left, or you can email if you have any questions.

Duggan Update - We received some great pictures and a little update from Duggan's foster mom Diane. Here is an update from Diane with some pictures of Duggan and his handsome foster brother Blade.

Hi Renee, just wanted to let you know that Duggan had his grooming done today and was a real trooper.

He loved every part of the pampering he received. He met a lot of different people in the store workers and customers and also a little pooch and he was very good with all of them.

One woman was petting him and said she is not a dog lover but thinks she is falling in love. He looks so much better and his coat feels a lot better too and softer.

I asked them to give him an oatmeal bath as his skin is very dry and flaking in some spots.. they did that, cleaned his ears. cut his nails etc. He looks really really good. ... .

Diane treated this handsome boy to a nice grooming, bath, nail clip - the works! I'll bet he feels like a million bucks now!

The Boys Need Our Help - Three boys who need your help. Please email, phone, talk ... network for these three who want to go to a home for Christmas...

Woody is an American Bulldog, neutered, and guessed to be about 2 years old. He's a fabulous doggie who loves every human he meets and loves, loves, loves to play in the exercise pen. He has meet small to large dogs of both sexes in dog-dog introductions but would benefit from a slower introduction. I suspect he's a bit of a Tarzan dog and could find an appropriate playmate with slow and managed introductions or a home without another pet. Woody would not be appropriate for a home with cats.

Click to enlarge...Click to enlarge...Click to enlarge...

If you think you could help us to help Woody, please fill in our on-line adoption/foster application on the left. We would love to see this affectionate young boy in a foster home for Christmas!

Rawkus has been waiting since July at the kennel waiting for a foster/forever family. He needs to get out for Christmas ... here is his bio...

Rawkus is a 9 year old senior boy who weighs approximately 80 pounds. He is a great dog who loves to just hang out with you, and is a great kisser. However this poor guy has been in the pound since July and would love a home where he can relax and be a family member.

He is clean in his cage. He is very strong when walking on leash but does better when walked with a martingale. He can be vocal when left alone too long.

He is good with other dogs but would be better in a home without cats. His vaccinations are up to date, he has been neutered and microchipped. This fellow, in his golden years belongs in a loving home, not at the pound.

And, Kane is a 1 1/2-2 yr. old male rottweiler who has found himself at a shelter as a stray. We cannot believe that no one was looking for him, but we would LOVE to help him.

While a lot is not known about Kane, it seems he is good with other dogs, interested in cats, but very good with meeting new people. He went to the vet today for vaccines and was really good with everyone at the clinic.

If you think you can help us help Kane, please fill in our on-line adoption/foster application on the left. If you have any questions, please email us at!

We would love to see these boys in a foster/adoptive situation by Christmas and time is running out ... please network for these three deserving dogs.

Karitsa Update - We have more pictures of Karitsa who is thoroughly enjoying the snow and one by one is meeting her foster brothers.

As you can see, she has made friends with all the boys and it looks like everyone is having a blast playing/running in the snow. Karitsa went to see the vet this week and she did super well when getting her vaccinations. We are hoping she will see the groomer on Monday and give this girl a nice grooming and the works!! (-:

Stay tuned for more about Karitsa. From what we know, she is good with other dogs, all sizes, good with cats and good with children. She is also a real "talker" we are told by Carolina. hahaha ... so you will never have to worry about things getting too quiet as Karitsa seems to have her own opinion at times LOL

What a beautiful girl - we are thrilled that we were able to take this sweetheart into our rescue. Thank you again Carolina and Mike and all the foster fur-brothers for offering this girl a safe place to fall.

Woody Needs Help - We would like to draw your attention to this very handsome dude named Woody.

He has been at the shelter for quite some time waiting for his forever home and we would love to find a foster/forever home so Woody can spend the holidays in a warm home surrounded by a family! This is Woody's Christmas Wish and it is ANML-RESQ's wish for Woody.

Woody ADORES being with people. He is a young, energetic boy who would benefit from an active family that will give him the exercise he requires. He is at the "teenage" stage and will require someone with patience and a lot of love. Woody is recommended to a home without cats and if there is a resident dog to consider, a slow introduction for Woody would be best. He has a lot of pent-up energy to burn so would probably come across as obnoxious if an excited meeting were to take place. He would also do best with a companion that can keep up with his energy.

If you think you could help us find a home for this beautiful boy, whether foster or forever, it would mean the world to Woody. Contact us if you think you can help.

We also received some more pictures of our beautiful girl Tasha. As you can see, she has made herself right at home!

Tasha is looking better every time we get a new update and it brings a smile to our faces to have watched her transformation from skin and bone to STUNNING!

Weekend Update - ANML-RESQ had another busy weekend past. We are thrilled that we were able to find a wonderful foster home for little Zoey the Doberman.

Zoey arrived to her foster (and hopefully forever home) on Sunday. Thank you so much Debbie and family for welcoming this little monkey into your home. We hear she is a real firecracker and full of energy, but that will hopefully subside in a few days.

Another FANTASTIC moment this weekend was the adoption of our long-time resident Simi-girl! She has been welcomed by new mom Monica and dad Walter and furry brother Kamen! Congratulations Simi!

It took a long time to find that perfect forever home - but as we always say - those that wait the longest, wait for the BEST!

There was also a large rescue of dogs/puppies in Northern Quebec and rescuers were called upon to assist as there were a lot of dogs/puppies and pregnant females rescued...

We were very thankful to have a foster home prepared to take in several puppies so we also had the opportunity to help these 4 little munchkins as well. As you can see - they are in horrid shape. They came from deplorable conditions, on their own to fend for themselves and starving when they were rescued and now they must be brought back to good health.

Thankfully we were able to rush them to the vets today for a complete check up, skin scrapings, fecal testing, etc. Our babies went home with foster mom with antibiotics, medicated shampoo and medicated dip. We hope that in very short order these babies will be feeling much, much better. Many thanks to Christine and family for welcoming these little babies into your hearts and home.

We also brought in a stunning girl last weekend. Her name is Karitsa (means lamb in Finnish). She is a 2 1/2 yr. old Kuvasz, not overly large at 83 lbs., but will still fill in some more we are sure.

Here are some pictures of Karitsa having a great time with her foster brother Timber. We will have more information about Karitsa in future blogs, so please stay tuned!

All in all - a pretty great weekend! Thanks to everyone that helped get these kids where they needed to be! Thank you to our foster families for the dedicated care and love you give to those in need.

Duggan Update - We received some great pictures of Duggan from his foster mom Diane. What a cutie pie he is. His foster brother Blade has been very kind to Duggan and welcomed him into their home with a wag and a kiss. It seems Blade likes to give Duggan the odd kiss as he walks past him and sometimes Duggan will kiss him back. What a great welcome into the family for our boy Duggan - thanks Blade!

Diane tells us that Duggan is a real gentleman. He is a "go with the flow" kind of guy - not high energy, very laid back. He has met the resident cat and he has been good with her as well.

Here are some pictures that Diane has shared of Duggan and her handsome boy Blade. In this picture, Blade is the one sticking out his tongue. His mom tells me he does not like to have his picture taken. That is very apparent LOL

Tasha Update - Our beautiful girl Tasha is doing super well in her foster home. She has come a long way since her arrival about a month ago. When foster mom picked her up she was very sad to see her so, so thin. It is heartbreaking when you see them looking so frail. Fast forward a month and look at this beauty now!

We have some pictures to share of Tasha enjoying the love of her foster family and by the sounds of this short update - it looks like Tasha is home to stay!! (-: Here is an update from Tasha's foster mom ... soon to be adoptive mom!

Here's a picture of Tasha chilling on the couch!! We love her so much as she does us!!

Look at how Tasha is looking at her mom. If that isn't love, I don't know what is!

Tasha has learned alot!! I think Tasha will be our Christmas present! Xo

It is amazing what a loving and devoted home and good food can do for the soul. Tasha will soon be at a healthy enough weight to undergoes her spay and then she can be officially adopted. (-:

Pumpkin Update - We had a surprise blast from the past this week. Foster mom for Pumpkin (now known as Jaz) got some awesome pictures and update of our little girl. If you remember our Pumpkin, she was a pup from a litter we took in and for some reason she was not flourihing as well as the other puppies.

Hey Mim! Long time! Hope all is well with you :) Jaz and the family is doing well!

Ive included some pictures for you! Jaz getting ready for halloween but refusing to wear her wings the right way!

Jaz supporting her favourite world cup soccer teams!

I don’t know if you knew this but Jaz loves Guinness! I was tanning on the balcony one day and I heard a funny noise… When I turned around this is what she was doing…

Kee and I taking her for a stroll!

This is her "Youre going to give me a treat?" face!

She had a hard time keeping food down. After many vet visits and tests we finally found out what the problem was ... our little girl had ME. But as you can see, she has grown into an absolutely stunning girl who is thriving and very much loved.

Weekend Update - We have a few things we are excited to share with you but I will start with our Pictures with Santa fundraiser at Crawfords Garden Centre in Milton. What a FANTASTIC turnout we had.

SO many people came and brought their beloved pets to have their pictures taken, some great dog people there with so many different breeds of all shapes and sizes. However, there was a predominant presence of our beloved black and tans. At one point there must have been 8 or 9 rotties all walking with their families and enjoying the wonderful venue at Crawford Garden Centre.

Thanks to our volunteers Mim and Christine we had a wonderful array of baked goods that were scooped up very quickly. We would like to thank Sarah and all the wonderful people at Crawford's Nursery for inviting us and hosting our event with your Winter Wonderland. Many thanks to Bob at Dog's Inn in Milton for being the perfect Santa!

Click to enlarge...Click to enlarge...Click to enlarge...

Many thanks as well to our volunteers Darlene, Karen, Debbie and Noah for helping out with the day. Most of all, thank you to everyone that dropped in on Sunday to have pictures taken with Santa and supporting the animals we have the honour of taking into our care.
I have a few pictures to share right now but there will definitely be a lot more pictures to share with you in the near future.

Thanks to everyone that came to support us we were able to raise $1,250.00 (and that amount raised was matched by a very generous donator) so thank you all for making this possible!! So many more dogs will be helped because of your kindness and generosity.

We are also SUPER excited to tell you that we were able to find a wonderful foster home for Duggan and he arrived into foster care on Sunday evening. It was a very long transport and day for Duggan so when he arrived, it wasn't long before he flaked out on the floor LOL. He has met the resident rotti boy, Blade as well as the resident cat and the introductions went very well. Duggan had a good nights sleep laying on the bed beside foster mom's bed.

Today, we hear he has cuddling with foster mom on the couch. Foster mom, Diane says Duggan is a really sweet boy so we will keep you posted on his progress in the coming blogs. Here are a couple of pictures of Duggan, chillin (-:
